Martina Chmelanová is a Slovak actress from Ružomberok who specializes in movement, non-verbal and experimental theatre. She studied acting at the J. L. Bella Conservatory in Banská Bystrica and went on to HAMU in Prague, where she studied non-verbal theatre. She completes her education at the Academy of Arts in Banská Bystrica under the pedagogical guidance of Richard Sanitra and Jan Přeučil. In her artistic life she has collaborated with several independent theatres and groups such as FysioART in the Czech Republic, Kaukliar group and Odivo theatre. During her studies, she guest starred in the production of Resurrection of a Miracle with the Pôton Theatre, which was also presented at an international festival in France. Since 2023, she has been working at the Jozef Gregor Tajovský Theatre in Zvolen, where she performs in such productions as WE WANT THEATRE!, Front Bus, Faithful Infidelity, Dežo Hoffmann: I Photographed the Beatles, I Love Mama and the family production The Miraculous Journey of Eduardo the Rabbit. As a co-author, she participated in the movement-visual production Correlation, which premiered at the Small Studio DAU in Banská Bystrica in October 2024. She is also a participant in various movement and acting workshops, and in 2018 she received an award for movement etude at the PAN-PANart festival. Martina Chmelanová is a strong representative of the young generation of female theatre artists who combine classical drama practices with movement, puppetry and site-specific theatre and create innovative original projects within both professional and independent scenes.
