Alone on stage
The festival, founded in Trenčín in 1995, is among the oldest and most unique theatre events in Slovakia.
Its uniqueness lies in its focus on solo theatre – a form of stage art where a single performer carries the entire dramatic presentation. The festival provides a platform for presenting solo productions of various genres – from dramas, comedies, physical and movement theatre to multimedia performances or poetic expressions with strong acting commitment.
During its thirty-year existence, it has presented dozens of exceptional performances from Slovakia and abroad (for example, from the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Germany, or France) and has become a respected platform for independent artists. The festival has gradually established its place in the international context as well – as a unique format that purposefully develops solo acting and creates space for the exchange of experiences among artists from various countries. In addition to the performances themselves, the festival also offers an accompanying program – discussions with creators, workshops, concerts, and reflections that foster a lively dialogue between the audience and artists. It takes place annually in various venues in Trenčín – from cultural centers like Klub Lúč to alternative and site-specific venues, such as Družba Drama Studio.
The Sám na javisku Festival is now firmly established not only on the domestic but also on the international theatre map as a significant event focused on contemporary solo theatre and distinctive stage expressions.
