A theatrical adaptation of a Chinese folk tale with technical elements of Japanese serious Noh theatre. To the sound of a flute and the rhythmic striking of resonant wooden instruments, a blind narrator enters. He accepts the offered seat and begins to tell the story of a student who once received food and a place in the corner of an inn from a kind innkeeper, where he could study. One day, the student comes to say goodbye and, as a sign of gratitude, paints a magical heron on the wall, which dances to applause. However, he asks the innkeeper not to let the heron dance more than once a day. Thanks to the magical heron, the innkeeper becomes very rich, but one day he breaks the promise he made to the student, and the heron leaves him. Subsequently, he loses all his possessions, goes blind, and earns a living by telling stories. At this point, the narrator ends his tale and sets off on another journey…
