Lucia Svobodová Vrana is a Slovak theatre artist who works as a director, set designer and puppeteer. She graduated from the Department of Puppetry at the Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava, where she began to profile herself in the field of original and visual theatre. After graduating, she co-founded Anima Act, an independent theatre company dedicated to creating performances for children and adults with an emphasis on original visual and movement language. In her work, Lucia often combines several creative components – she designs scenography, creates puppets and also acts as a performer. An example is the performance The Duck After, in which she also appears as an actress. Her work is characterized by the poetics of visual theatre and contemporary puppetry, often working with metaphor and symbolism of the body, object and space. Lucia regularly collaborates with stone theatres such as Divadlo Na Fidlovačce or Těšínské divadlo, where she prepared her own production Divoženka – which premiered on 21. March 2026 and combines folkloric motifs with a modern directorial approach. In addition to the creation of productions, he is also actively engaged in pedagogical activities and the development of educational theatre projects for children’s audiences. Lucia Svobodová Vrana represents a distinctive voice of contemporary Slovak and Czech independent theatre. Her work is reflexive, visually inventive and dramaturgically connected to current themes of identity, nature, femininity and personal experience.
