Vít'a Marčík Jr.

Czech Republic

Vít’a Marčík Jr. is a Czech puppeteer, actor, musician and creator who continues the family theatre tradition of his father Vítězslav Marčík st. He is based in Drahotěšice, South Bohemia, where he founded his own company, Divadlo Já to jsem, in 2007. His work is characterized by a distinctive blend of folk storytelling, poetics, humour, live acting and puppet work. In his productions Vít’a Marčík Jr. is involved in practically everything – writing the script, directing, acting, making the set, puppets and composing the music. Among his most famous performances is Cinderella, which he plays together with his father. It is an interactive and playful performance full of rhymes and songs that have been continually renewed and adapted since 2006. Another important production is Moravian Passions – an impressive Easter performance in the form of folk puppet theatre, with original music by Vít’a Jr. In addition to productions, it also organises community and folklore events such as the Carousel of Fairy Tales or Easter Rumbles, which bring theatre into the public space and link tradition with a playful form of contemporary art. Vít’a Marčík Jr. is an exceptional artist who combines craftsmanship, imagery and heart – his theatre is poetic, deeply human and accessible to audiences young and old.
